Some pages earn links while you sleep. They are not your product pages. A linkable asset is useful enough that people cite it without you asking, and building one starts with a brainstorm where you are not allowed to judge your own ideas. Two phases, and this short lesson explains why keeping them separate is the whole trick.
So what are linkable assets? Linkable assets are pieces of content that make it easy to ask for links because they're so useful or valuable that people naturally want to link to them. These can also be pieces that get links without you having to ask, which we know as passive links. So here are some examples of different types of linkable assets. These are way too many to go through and there are even more. So what I would suggest is to make a screenshot of this and see what types of linkable assets could work for your topics. As I said, I like to do a session of content ideation for linkable assets.
It always happens in two phases. Phase one is brainstorm where you do not judge any of your ideas. You don't think about how you're going to apply your ideas. You're just using a sheet or something else, a notebook to note down all your ideas without judgment. And then after that, we step back and we go back into the session for a validation round. And there you can ask yourself questions like, does this idea align with my brand? Is there any indication that this idea could work? Is there any proof like social shares, for instance? Do I have the resources to create something like this? So let's go to phase one brainstorm.
